We created multiple matte paintings for the film, including the infamous prison which marks the notorious destination of the woman's long and complicated journey. In an elaborate, dreamlike sequence near the film's end, the woman is witnessing an almost theatre-like play, featuring the many characters she has met during her journey. The scene is set in a fictional interior, reminiscent of an old, historical Soviet banquet hall with lush chandeliers and pillars, created fully in 3D.

Frank van der Peet keeps an eye on a GigaPan robotic panohead to capture high-resolution images of the White Swan prison in Daugavpils, Latvia.
'Before and after' situation of the same shot featuring the matte painting of the infamous prison.
Another example of the prison matte, this time at night. The wall in the original shot was given more height and the image was undistorted to match other shots in the sequence.
